My Story

I have walked different paths but one I have remained on for quite some time has been supporting access to better pregnancy and birthing options for all.

This journey began when two different friends initiated me into the childbearing years. A midwife who began telling me about her work and the history of legislated practice in B.C., and a pregnant one who asked me to be her doula.

Supporting that birth was an incredible experience so I did a DONA approved training so I could become certified to continue to be present for those who desired support. Many asked, so I attended several others to the best of my ability while also working at a full-time job. Then, joyfully, I became pregnant and had a lovely baby girl with the support of my midwife friend and her wonderful working partner.

Wearing my newborn, I moved East, delivering my second in Nova Scotia where legal midwifery was sparse. It was shocking to witness the gaps in care services and discover how different the levels of knowledge around birth seemed to be. I started talking. Once it became known that I was a doula, word spread and I became hooked into the birthing profession and remained engaged, striving to fill gaps in the system with better continuous care services offered through my own small business, then branded as YoglowA, in the locations around where I settled.

Let me back up and weave in a different thread here.

I began practicing yoga in university and will never forget how, in my first class, the teacher had me upside down in a headstand before I could think myself out of it. I was so grateful for this practice that eventually I became a yoga teacher. I specialised in prenatal yoga for optimum positioning and postpartum yoga to rejuvenate exhausted moms.

As I expanded my knowledge, I trained in Hypopressives, which became one of my favourite practices. I believe this specialised breathwork shifted a disordered breathing pattern, while it supported the health of my pelvic floor. Who doesn’t want that! A lot of my clients joined in, especially postpartum mothers and our slogan became, ‘care more for your pelvic floor’. I knew a mission of mine was to keep us out of adult diapers!

So that was one step towards better postpartum care, but there were still big gaps. I had been hosting Birth Talks in my house to provide a way for new mothers to debrief about their experiences. I found the best practice to honestly process their story in an efficient and illuminating way when I became a certified Birth Story Listener through Birth Story Medicine. The alchemy is awesome!

Clients who have had coaching sessions have shared that I am nurturing, have a kind presence and a passion for states of wellbeing. I am grateful for their trust.

My joys

While my work is my life passion, having a healthy work life balance is important to me. Outside of seeing clients I practice conscious dance and yoga, go hiking in the woods, paddleboarding and swimming in the ocean. Pickleball is a new joy as is pottery. I love reading and happily grow fresh, delicious organic food for my family and friends.
